2023 LAS VEGAS AUCTION – 1970 DODGE HEMI CHALLENGER R/T – NO RESERVE
The 1970 Dodge HEMI Challenger R/T is a legendary car that is highly coveted by collectors and automotive enthusiasts. It was a muscle car designed for high-performance and speed ‒ meant to be driven hard and fast, and it delivered on that promise. The HEMI engine was a true masterpiece of engineering, producing an impressive 425 horsepower and 490 ft/lbs of torque. It was paired with a New Process A833 4-speed manual transmission with a Hurst pistol-grip shifter, making it a joy to drive for those who appreciated a manual gearbox.
The HEMI engine was not just powerful but was also built to withstand the rigors of high-speed driving. It was equipped with a race HEMI camshaft and Hooker long-tube headers, which helped it to breathe better and produce more power. The Super Track-Pak 7-blade torque drive fan and 26-inch radiator with shroud helped to keep the engine cool, even when pushed to its limits.
The HEMI suspension handling package was also a critical feature of the 1970 Dodge HEMI Challenger R/T. It included heavy-duty front torsion bars and rear leaf springs, along with front and rear anti-roll bars. This setup helped to keep the car planted on the road and provided excellent handling and stability. The front disc brakes provided ample stopping power, ensuring that the driver could bring the car to a safe stop, even when traveling at high speeds.
This example, offered with No Reserve during the June 22-24 Las Vegas Auction, is one of very few TX9 black HEMI-powered Challenger R/Ts produced out of a total of approximately 136 HEMI Challenger R/T hardtops built in 1970 with a 4-speed manual transmission. It was built on December 11, 1969, at the Hamtramck, Michigan, plant. The Challenger is powered by its matching-numbers 426ci HEMI V8 engine with the race HEMI camshaft and Hooker long-tube headers. It also features the original Dana 60 rear axle with Sure-Grip differential and 4.10 ratio gears, along with the Super Track-Pak 7-blade torque drive fan, 26-inch radiator with shroud and the HEMI suspension handling package.
This Challenger has undergone a meticulous rotisserie restoration, is finished in its original black color using the correct TX9 paint, and has a pristine black bucket-seat interior and center console. The interior features a Rallye instrument cluster with a trip odometer, wood-grain instrument panel and heater control, along with a seatbelt holder at the back of the console. Other highlights include chrome driver and passenger mirrors, hood pins, a 2-watt AM radio, stripe delete, bright exhaust tips and drip rail moldings.
This beauty is also fitted with 15-inch Rallye wheels with center caps, trim rings and new Coker reproduction Goodyear Polyglas GT F60-15 tires. The Challenger was a one-family-owned car and it comes with a Wise Validation Report.
The 1970 Dodge HEMI Challenger R/T is a classic muscle car that represents the pinnacle of automotive engineering and design. It was a car that was built for speed and performance, and it delivered on that promise in every way.
