For the Online Only July 2020 Auction, Barrett-Jackson is excited to present a stunning custom 2009 Audi R8 twin turbo (Lot #139).
When it launched in 2006, very few people would think of the Audi R8 as needing more power. After all, the R8 was the ride of choice for Iron Man himself, Tony Stark. From the factory, Audi fitted its award-winning 4.2-liter TFSI V8 engine and routed its 420hp through the legendary Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The R8 could rocket itself from 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds and hit 187 mph. Hardly a slouch, and plenty fast for most, but not all.
Enter Heffner Performance, the Sarasota, Florida-based tuner cut their teeth making fast cars faster – much faster.
Using their years of turbocharging and performance experience, Heffner set to work on upgrading the R8’s V8. Heffner added billet connecting rods and forged pistons, and also reprogrammed the factory Bosch ECU. The use of twin Garrett T28 dual-ball-bearing turbos, 44mm TIAL wastegates and a high-capacity water-to-air intercooler designed to fit between the intake runners and intake manifold keeps things cool.
The turbo system, which takes some 40 hours of labor to install, was designed to mimic an OEM-level fit and feel, with all the turbo piping hidden behind the R8’s rear fascia.
The result is a mind-numbing 625hp on 91 octane and at just 6 psi. Fed 100 octane, and the R8’s newly turbocharged engine can scurry down the quarter-mile in the high 10-second range. Best of all, despite the huge bump in power, the 6-speed automatic is stout enough to still use the factory clutch, and the factory catalytic converters are retained for emissions compliance.
For the Online Only July 2020 Auction, Barrett-Jackson is excited to present a stunning custom 2009 Audi R8 twin turbo (Lot #139).
Not only has the R8 been fitted with Heffner Performance’s twin-turbo system, but it also sports a suite of luxury options from the factory. Inside, the R8 features the Carbon Sigma interior package and is optioned with leather 10-way adjustable heated seats. Other interior amenities include a Bang & Olufsen sound system, navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. The exterior was optioned with carbon-fiber side blades, and the car rides on factory 19-inch forged wheels wrapped in Michelin rubber. The immaculate R8 is ready to cross the digital auction block and is sure to delight any who gets behind the wheel.
