2023 NEW ORLEANS AUCTION – 2024 GMC HUMMER EV SUV EDITION 1 VIN 001 – NO RESERVE
While General Motors’ all-electric Hummer may not actually be exploring the moon any time soon, the initial GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 showcases a distinct lunar aesthetic. The design team, operating under tight deadlines, enthusiastically embraced the challenge of creating a game changing electric vehicle and likened it to a “moonshot” endeavor, drawing parallels to NASA’s historic Apollo 11 lunar mission. This sense of a daring leap fueled the creativity within the design studio, resulting in playful space-themed surprises woven into the design details of the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 – VIN 001 of which is selling with No Reserve at Barrett-Jackson’s inaugural 2023 New Orleans Auction, September 28-30, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
Draped in the distinct Moonshot Green Matte exterior paint, a bespoke option reserved solely for the SUV Edition 1 variant, the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV stands out with its celestial allure. Inside, the Lunar Shadow-themed interior envelops occupants, adorned with Tech Bronze accents meticulously reminiscent of the iconic Apollo lunar module and the pioneering Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV). Interestingly, General Motors Defense Research Laboratories played a pivotal role in providing wheels, motors and suspension components for NASA’s first LRV on the moon during the Apollo 15 mission.
However, incorporating Apollo-inspired elements within the Hummer EV’s design is not confined to these aspects alone.
Enhancing the auditory experience, the metal speaker grilles of the Hummer EV’s high-end Bose 14-speaker premium sound system feature a unique touch: a topographical map of the moon’s famed Sea of Tranquility, hallowed ground for the momentous Apollo 11 lunar landing in July 1969. The design goes a step further, incorporating a boot-print motif, paying homage to the indelible footprints Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin left on the moon. This subtle yet profound lunar tribute extends its reach to the rubber floor mats and the lining of a pass-through compartment within the central console, creating a cohesive lunar surface pattern throughout the vehicle’s interior.
The captivating space exploration motif finds further expression within the dashboard displays, which immerse the observer in graphics portraying the Hummer EV gracefully traversing the rugged terrains of both the moon and Mars. Activating the launch control mode – aptly dubbed “Watts to Freedom” by GM – unleashes a symphony of power as the system channels its might into a swift 0-60 mph surge in approximately 3.5 seconds, courtesy of the dynamic three-motor e4WD propulsion system. The trio of electric motors seamlessly combines to yield an estimated 830 horsepower and 11,500 ft/lbs of torque, an undeniable testament to its prowess.
During the transition to Watts to Freedom, interior visual and audio cues orchestrate a “pre-launch countdown” sensation. These cues include distinctive auditory elements emanating from the speakers and captivating screen animations. As the Hummer EV readies itself for its thrilling launch, a deliberate two-inch descent ensues, purposefully lowering its center of gravity to enhance stability and performance during this electrifying acceleration sequence.
Expanding the driver’s vista beyond terrestrial confines, the Hummer EV introduces a captivating connection from Earth to the moon through its innovative Infinity Roof. This panoramic feature embraces open-air driving through its modular, translucent Sky Panels, generously affording occupants an unobstructed gaze at the expanse above. At a moment’s notice, these removable and transparent Sky Panels adeptly tuck away within the eTRUNK located at the vehicle’s front, ensuring seamless convenience.
Distinguishing itself further, the 2024 Hummer also boasts the cutting-edge iteration of Super Cruise driver-assistance technology. This advanced system encompasses hands-free driving capabilities and the seamless functionality of Automatic Lane Change, empowering drivers on over 400,000 miles of compatible roadways across the United States and Canada.
This VIN 001 vehicle was delivered to Crown GMC/Hummer in New Orleans and sent directly to Barrett-Jackson’s New Orleans Auction site. It has accumulated 23 actual miles.
The 2024 Hummer EV SUV, with its lunar-inspired design elements, groundbreaking technology, and the fusion of innovation and homage to space exploration, is a remarkable testament to automotive engineering and human ambition. From its captivating Moonshot Green Matte exterior to its interior adorned with lunar motifs, every detail reflects a harmonious blend of past achievements and futuristic aspirations.
