This restored 1968 Shelby GT500KR “King of the Road” fastback is powered by a 428ci Cobra Jet engine paired with an automatic transmission. It has undergone a mechanical and complete nut-and-bolt restoration. It still retains its original, interior seating and console in Saddle trim. This KR has the period-correct painted-on LeMans stripes down the middle of the car. The original color of Highland Green has been clear-coated, and the original driving lights are still mounted in the grille area on the front bumper.
Only 1,053 GT500KR fastbacks were built in 1968; this is one of only 95 in Highland Green and one of just 16 with Saddle trim. It is loaded with options like GT Visibility and Decor Groups, sport deck rear seat, original Shelby Stewart-Warner gauges in the center console, power steering, front power disc brakes, tilt steering wheel, factory air conditioning, tinted glass, tachometer and trip odometer.
This GT500 was sold new in Youngstown, OH, and is listed proudly in the official Shelby Registry. It is riding on Shelby aluminum wheels and period-correct Goodyear tires with a full-size matching spare. Assigned Shelby #2367, this car has documentation that includes the factory invoice, Shelby invoice, order receipt, Marti Report and Window Sticker.
