Lot #1340.1 (Left) and Lot #1340 (Right) selling individually with No Reserve.
While we all love the adrenaline-pumping action seen throughout the original “Top Gun” movie and its recent sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick,” another unforgettable element is the powerful relationship between Goose and Maverick, two pilots that share a “ride-or-die” friendship we all aspire to have. Maverick and Goose are really two halves of the same person, much like this pair of 1970 Ford Broncos named after the dynamic duo. Full disclosure: These Broncos have nothing to do with the movie – the consignor just has great taste when it comes to naming vehicles.
LOT #1340 – 1970 FORD BRONCO CUSTOM SUV “MAVERICK” – NO RESERVE
Offered during the 2023 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction with No Reserve, each of these first-generation 4×4 Broncos received a full custom frame-off build and each was the result of a collaboration between Tre5 Customs, Ikandy Paintworks and Paradise Customs. The 1970 Ford Bronco nicknamed “Goose” was displayed at the 2022 SEMA Show, featuring Precision Replacement Parts’ newest product line of seals specifically designed for classic Broncos.
Under the hood of each Bronco is a Gen 3 5.0-liter Coyote crate engine mated to a Ford 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission with an Atlas twin stick dual-range transfer case. The engine breathes though ceramic-coated headers that mate up to the custom Borla stainless-steel exhaust. According to the consignor, everything from the custom-made cold-air intake to the remote oil reservoir was designed to work seamlessly with every detail from the engine performance to the desired aesthetic appearance.
Each features a 2-inch body lift with an 11-spring 3.5-inch suspension lift. The lift, along with the James Duff T-Rex radius arms, provides the required room needed for the 35-inch Mickey Thompson AT tires.
This is where the two Broncos start to differentiate. “Goose” utilizes U.S. Mags slotted Indy polished aluminum 17×9, 5×5.5 wheels, which are then mounted to a Dana 44 differential up front. “Maverick,” on the other hand, utilizes true beadlock Anza 17×9, 5×5.5 wheels, also mounted to a Dana 44 differential up front.
LOT #1340.1 – 1970 FORD BRONCO CUSTOM SUV “GOOSE” – NO RESERVE
Each Bronco is equipped with a Ford 9-inch rear end sporting 4.10 gears and 31-spline axles, along with a Truetrac limited-slip differential. Additionally, each has disc brakes on all four corners with a Wilwood master cylinder and booster to ensure proper stopping performance. To handle the larger tires, along with the significant horsepower increase and the added height, both Broncos received power steering and AMP PowerSteps.
The exterior really sets these two Broncos apart. “Goose” was painted with an elevated Sea Foam Green with a white painted stripe embedded into the paint, matching the white hardtop and fully wraparound red-accented pinstriping. To keep with the color scheme, the interior custom roll cage was painted to match the top.
“Maverick” was painted Brittany Blue with a gray painted stripe, which is also embedded into the paint and matches its gray hardtop. Like “Goose,” the interior 6-point roll cage was painted to match the top. “Maverick” also includes quick-release hinges to remove the doors, and a built-in kill switch allows the steps to be manually controlled when they’re extended without doors.
One of the most interesting features shared by these Broncos is that each hardtop was fabricated to have four billet retractable lifting points, which, when paired with the Bluetooth Garage Smart winch system, lifts and stores the top without any need for tools, and requires only minutes to go from hardtop on to hardtop off.
Grab your best friend and register to bid today to make one ‒ or both ‒ of these Bronco buddies yours at the 2023 Scottsdale Auction, January 21-29.
