THE RISE OF THE RESTO-MODS: Trendsetters on the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale block

Can you spot the modern elements cleverly incorporated into the interior of this classic 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air? This Resto-Mod sold for $363,000 at the 2019 Scottsdale Auction.
We’ve seen the signs for a number of years, but the 2019 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction showed us that not only have Resto-Mods arrived, they’re here to stay! Defined as domestic and imported cars that retain their classic look, but have been restored (resto) and modified (mod) with modern-day bodywork, technology, engine, drivetrain and interiors, Resto-Mods have seen a meteoric rise in interest among buyers in recent years. There were more than 150 of these custom vehicles on the Scottsdale docket this year – a nearly 90 percent increase from just two years ago. Here’s a look at a dozen examples that caught our eye on the auction block:
