It’s official: Production of the 2022 F-150 Lightning pickup is underway and marks the start of a new electric era! Popular from the get-go with a starting price under $40,000, the Ford Lightning quickly reached its reservation limit.
The Lightning boasts 580 horsepower when equipped with the extended range battery pack– the standard battery pack delivers 452hp. It can produce 775 ft/lbs of torque, making the 2022 Lightning the fastest accelerating F-150 to date.
For some comparison, the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor, powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo high output EcoBoost V6 engine, is rated with 450 horsepower and 510 ft/lbs of torque.
Lightning pickups equipped with the extended range battery can hit 60 mph from a standstill in the mid-4-second range. As if that wasn’t enough to get Ford fans excited, the Lightning has a 2,000 lb payload and a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs.
However, the Lightning’s performance isn’t limited to power on the road. With Ford Intelligent Backup Power, the new pickup truck can provide power to an entire home for up to three days if needed.
Additionally, because the Lightning lacks a traditional engine under the hood, Ford has designated the new storage space as the “Mega Power Frunk” – get it, front trunk, frunk. The frunk is lockable and features power and charging capabilities.
Like the smart TVs, computers and phones we use every day, the Lightning is also subject to software updates called Ford Power-Ups. These updates aim to continually keep the truck “smart” and “productive.”
Inside, the driver receives an advanced digital experience with a modern interface via 15.5-inch touch screen designed to adapt to driver behavior. Elevating the digital experience further is a 12-inch instrument cluster with a customizable interface and animated graphics to relay how the vehicle is performing in hands-free highway driving mode.
