In 2023, the world bid farewell to Don Williams, a cherished member of the Barrett-Jackson family and a respected figure for many years in the collector car community. His legacy is deeply rooted in his contributions to the collector car industry, notably with his stewardship of the renowned Blackhawk Museum and his assistance in curating the Salon Collection at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale Auctions. Don Williams was celebrated for his extraordinary talent in discovering unique and important automobiles that left a lasting impact on the automotive community. His passion and expertise will continue to inspire enthusiasts for generations to come.
In a heartfelt tribute to Don Williams, the Jackson Family Foundation ‒ led by Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson and his wife Carolyn, the auction company’s Chief Philanthropy Officer ‒ has joined forces with Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Chairman Sandra Button and her husband Martin to underwrite a Classic Car Restoration program to train underserved youth as vehicle restorers and mechanics. Through this initiative, the memory of Don Williams will live on, empowering and supporting future generations of automotive enthusiasts in their pursuit of excellence in restoration and preservation skills.
Contributions received that are marked “In Memory of Don Williams” will benefit students attending Rancho Cielo and those enrolled in the esteemed Classic Car Restoration program.
Founded in 2000 and based in Salinas, California, Rancho Cielo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to offering comprehensive learning opportunities and acting as a social services center for underserved and disconnected youth in Monterey County. The impact of this school goes beyond the academic realm; it serves as an inspiration to its students and makes a significant difference in their lives and their communities after graduation.
The partnership with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the Jackson Family Foundation underscores the commitment to empowering young minds with a passion for automotive restoration. By directing the funds towards Rancho Cielo’s automotive program, it not only honors the legacy of Don Williams but also supports the development of skills and talents among deserving students. The fund’s purpose is to create a lasting impact, fostering opportunities for growth and ensuring that the future of classic car restoration remains vibrant and promising in the hands of passionate and determined individuals. Through this endeavor, the automotive community comes together to fuel the potential of these young learners, helping them forge a path of success and positive contributions to society.
The Classic Car Restoration program at Rancho Cielo has made remarkable strides since its inception just two years ago. The program owes its success to the diligent efforts of the Carmel Rotary, who not only curated the initiative but also provided essential funding for hiring a skilled instructor and acquiring necessary tools and lifts for the garage. This support has been instrumental in creating a conducive learning environment for the students.
The program’s profound impact serves as a testament to the potential of education and mentorship in transforming lives. As these young learners embrace their passion for classic car restoration, they not only acquire technical expertise but also gain invaluable life skills, self-confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. Through this transformative journey, the Classic Car Restoration program at Rancho Cielo is making a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of these deserving young people.
Driven by the commitment and passion of the Jacksons and the Buttons, the memory and legacy of Don Williams will live on. Godspeed, Don, Godspeed.
