Details
These two 2011 DieHard battery powered replica dragsters were built by Brad Hadman, designed by Mike Gerry and graphics by Eric Reyes under the supervision of Jerry Gwynn. The dragsters were built for the 'Garlits vs. Gwynn: Match Races for a Cause' charity racing series to raise awareness and money for the Darrell Gwynn Foundation and Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing, Inc., The charity match race brought legendary drivers 'Big Daddy' Don Garlits and Darrell 'The Kid' Gwynn back to the racetrack during the NHRA's 60th Anniversary Celebration. The match race series was historical and marked the first time in 21 years that Darrell Gwynn raced competitively since his racing accident in 1990 that left him paralyzed, and ended his racing career and also marked the final time the two NHRA Hall of Famers and rivals, Garlits and Gwynn, raced each other in 2011. The match races took place at several racetracks celebrating historical highlights from the Garlits vs. Gwynn rivalry, including racing on the 25th anniversary of their matchup in the finals of the US Nationals in Indianapolis, and the 25th Anniversary of Garlits' famous blow-over vs. Gwynn in Englishtown, N.J. The dragsters are replicas of the Top Fuel Dragsters each drove during the 1986 NHRA season. They make an incredible addition to any car collector's museum, and can be used as recreational vehicles as they can be tuned anywhere from 30 mph to 80 mph. Think of the fun a father and son or two friends could have with these replica dragsters! Sponsors who made this project possible include Vision Airlines, Lucas Oil, Dynamic Machine, DieHard, National Auto Mart, JEGS, Summit, Mac Tools, Barrett-Jackson, Goodyear, DMR, Reliable Transportation, Moon, Pro Glass, G-Force, Simpson, K&N Filters, Mark Williams and Brad Hadman/PMI Truck bodies. Established in 2002 by Champion Drag Racer Darrell Gwynn and his wife Lisa, the Foundation's mission is to provide support for people with paralysis and prevent spinal cord injuries. Proceeds from the auction of 2011 Garlits vs. Gwynn Replica Dragsters will benefit the foundation's mission including its Wheelchair Donation Program, Education and Prevention Program, and Patient Assistance Fund.
