This 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SL handsomely marks the final model year for the long-running 'R107' Mercedes-Benz SL series. Just 8,565 were sold in the United Sates for 1989, including this beautifully preserved example, offered from a Mercedes-Benz dealer/collector with 3,096 miles (the title reads mileage exempt). It is handsomely finished in Code 929 Nautical Blue Metallic paint with Code 278 gray leather upholstery, a Code 744 dark blue soft-top and body-color auxiliary hardtop. Carrying an original MSRP nearing $66,000, this 560SL features a long list of standard features, including a 4-speed automatic transmission, anti-theft alarm system, power 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS, power steering, a Becker Grand Prix AM/FM cassette stereo unit with power antenna, air conditioning, fog lamps and a tachometer with Quartz chronometer. While U.S.-bound 560SLs delivered somewhat less power than their European counterparts due to the emission-control equipment required for EPA compliance, performance remained brisk, with acceleration from rest to 60 mph in just 8.0 seconds and a top speed nearing 140 mph. Consistent with its rich traditions, Mercedes-Benz constantly refined and updated the R107-generation SL series, which remained in production for nearly 20 years. Powered by a 5.6-liter overhead-cam V8 engine developing 227 factory-rated horsepower, the 560SL was the ultimate expression of the concept, available from 1985 through 1989.
