Details
This custom 1979 Ford Econoline Jet Van was built from the ground up as a true dragster. The body (shell) of the van is the only part that is of the original design. It is powered by an early 1950s-vintage Westinghouse J-34 11-stage axial-flow turbojet engine that generates 3,500 pounds of thrust; with the afterburner it comes to just over 6,500 pounds. The data plate for this engine says it was delivered to the U.S. Air Force on September 9, 1951. The van has a custom wrap over the original Ford Econoline body and it is equipped with a parachute to help stop the van when finishing a run down the runway. Among the planes that used the J-34 are the McDonnell F-2H Banshee (Navy carrier fighter), XF-85 Goblin (Air Force parasite fighter), D-558B Skyrocket (Navy supersonic research airplane) and the XF-88 Voodoo (Air Force penetration fighter). **SOLD ON BILL OF SALE** **NOT STREET LEGAL**
