There were a total of 629 Oldsmobile Hurst pace cars made in 1972; 499 of them were hardtops, and 279 of those hardtops were built without sunroofs. The 1972 Oldsmobile Hurst pace car was developed by Hurst Performance, not Oldsmobile. Oldsmobile provided the Cutlass Supreme coupe and convertible. It was the first and only time an Indy pace car was sponsored by a manufacturer other than an automobile manufacturer, and the first time to include a major supplier's name in the title. The only color

available was Cameo White with reflective 3M gold stripes that were stickers, not paint. This car is powered by a new, modified Mondello Performance engine bored out to 462ci mated to a TH400 automatic transmission, with a console-mounted Hurst Dual Gate shifter and a W25 Ram Air hood. The engine has just 750 miles since its installation. It's equipped with a new torque converter and HEI ignition and puts out a dyno-tested 293hp and 418 ft/lbs or torque. This Pace Car re-creation coupe has 48,600 original miles (the title reads mileage exempt) and features a new 2500 stall torque converter and HEI ignition. It includes the original Protect-O-Plate, front page of the vehicle warranty and the front page of the Official Program from the 56th Indy 500. The original interior is set up for air conditioning but needs a compressor. It’s rust-free, has been garaged in Florida.
