1970 PONTIAC FIREBIRD GM CONCEPT CAR

This remarkable one-off concept vehicle was a Pontiac Show Car proposal based upon the second generation Firebird. Designed by famed GM designer Harry Bentley Bradley. Built by Dave Crook, one of the nation's leading specialty car builders. Mr. Crook began his career at GM with Fisher Body Division. His exceptional skills in prototype engineering and construction, plus his design sensitivity came to the attention of Bill Mitchell, GM's design vice president. Mr. Mitchell personally recruited and transferred Dave to GM's design staff in the capacity of technical designer. Pontiac One was created to be a vivid glimpse into the future of Firebird. However the car had very limited auto show exposure because it was completed just as the industry was refocusing its attention from style and performance to fuel economy and safety mandates. The car's design theme combines the look of speed with the elegance of three dimensional form. The dramatically dropped beltline visually lowers the car while the bold rear wheel forms suggest sheer power and energy. Two of the cars unique features are the 6 hood air intakes which thrust forward from the cowl to the very front of the nose and the concealed car-wide taillamps based upon an optical reflector system with an elegant prismatic lens.
