1970 was the first year of the second-generation Firebirds. Of the 48,739 Firebirds made in 1970, 7,708 (15.8 percent) were Formula 400 Firebirds. This Formula Firebird is a true survivor car with just two owners, all-original drivetrain and 15,567 miles (the title reads mileage exempt). The first owner was David Blaire, a Pontiac engineer whose Pontiac collection was featured in the February 1978 issue of Popular Hot-Rodding magazine, showcasing all of Blaire's cars, including this Firebird. As a Pontiac engineer, Blaire was able to order this Formula 400 Firebird with a few factory options that were 'ahead of their time' and not yet offered in the 1970 model year. These include an inside hood release, headlight timer and electric bucket seat release. Power comes from the original matching-numbers 400ci V8 engine with 428 HO heads and is fitted with the Ram Air III option, which boasts 345hp. The engine is coupled to the original Turbo 400 automatic transmission turning a 12-bolt rear end with 3.07 gears. Options include variable-ratio power steering, power windows, Trans Am suspension, factory climate control, comfort package, power windows, power brakes, AM/FM radio, console and rear window defroster. The exterior is finished in Coronado Gold with a Dark Gold Cordova top over a light Sandalwood bucket-seat interior. Included in the sale are the Pontiac warranty booklet, user's manual, a copy of the Bill of Sale from the original owner to the second owner, original ownership documents, PHS Build Sheet and PHS dealer options list, as well as the original Popular Hot Rodding magazine issue.
