It starts 43 years ago with two friends and a simple bet. One the owner of a Chevrolet dealership the other a manager at the GM Van Nuys assembly plant. I'll bet you $500 you can't deliver an LS6 Chevelle rag by Halloween the one man says, the other man says I'll take that bet what color would you like. The bet is forgotten until a telegram is received in early October 1969. It reads (Your car was to be shipped today but was sent to a hold area. A mismarked LS5 installed in error. Will have
correct LS6 in three days plus day to swap. Should deliver 10/28-10/30. I'll collect my 5 next time I see you.) the car arrived Halloween eve 10-30-69. The bet was paid by a gold standard $500 bill and is included in the sale, as is the original Western Union telegraph from General Motors to the dealer. Included is original Build Sheet. The dealer installed power steering. Steve Greenwood enjoyed the car for nearly two years. Even after the dealership replaced the engine twice he said it was still his favorite car of all. The car would be seen in his dealership for service the following years until it disappeared and was never to be seen again. Fast forward to 1999 when the car was found by Craig Patey in restorable condition in Oklahoma. The car was restored over the next three years to the best available result. The car was driven and enjoyed for the next few years and ownership was transferred. The current owner acquired the car in 2010 and proceeded with a two year re-restoration and has zero miles since. The car is now correct in every way and is a pleasure to drive and will be sought after by those who have the knowledge to know how really rare this Chevrolet is. Not only was this the first LS6 out of Van Nuys and is the first LS6 for public consumption in the nation and is the only LS6 that left the factory without SMOG.
