Description

Summary

1969 Chevrolet Camaro with late-model Corvette drivetrain and Corvette suspension. Powered by a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 engine with 6-speed manual transmission and posi-traction rear end with many custom components. From the Bryan Frank Collection.

Details

This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro design goal was to end up with a one-of-a-kind Camaro, with modern fuel injection, all Corvette suspension that looked nearly stock and could be serviced by GM. This is the end of a professional 3-year build. The original GM shell was media-blasted to bare metal and, inside and out, was rotisserie-prepared. All remaining sheet metal is brand-new, and this Camaro is finished in a brand-new paint color, Hugger Orange, with the RS/SS trim and color. Powering this Camaro

is a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The rear suspension has a polished Corvette C4 ZR1 Dana 44 IRS, sway bar, composite traverse spring, torque arm, with all-new hubs and brakes. The all-polished-aluminum front suspension is from a 2004 Corvette C5, and features power rack & pinion steering. The chassis works coilover springs and is ride-height adjustable. The brand-new Corvette wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone tires. This Camaro has the original GM shell and quarters, but everything else is brand-new, including sheet metal, interior, brakes, tires, wheels, glass, chrome, trim, emblems, wiring, clutch, driveshaft, bearings, hubs, etc. The goal was to not cut up components or the car and to start with proven GM Corvette suspension components. GM has completed the new car service, including electronic control module interrogation, front and rear alignment, new brake service and safety check, including the park brake, speedometer and gauge calibration, air conditioning inspection, and charge and electrical check. Performance parts include ChassisWorks, Detroit Speed variable speed wiper system and battery hold-down, BCA hubs, Earl's Performance brake lines, Street and Performance MAF and fuel pressure regulator, AutoMeter gauges, Covan's dash, B&M short-throw shifter, Centerforce clutch, Hooker ceramic long-tube headers, and Vintage Air cooling system controls.
