Details
Absolutely pristine, this bus was restored over a three year period in which the vehicle was completely disassembled, restored and reassembled to a truly better-than-new quality. This nut and bolt restoration saw the stripped body mounted to a custom jig that enabled a true rotisserie restoration. All body panels were sandblasted to bare metal, all suspension and brake assemblies were sandblasted and powder prior to reinstallation. Also plated, powder coated and polished, as appropriate, all
stainless steel, aluminum and chrome on the entire vehicle, from the sunroof rails to the exterior decorative trim and door hardware. The entire interior was removed and disassembled. All seat frames and supports were sandblasted and powder coated. The interior was professionally restored to original correct specifications, including the headliner, canvas top and upholstery. All proper jail bars and luggage rails are in place and were plated and polished prior to installation carpet in the rear luggage areas is German square weave wool. All body panels were prepped and painted the original Tahitian Red and white prior to reassembly. The engine and transaxle were completely disassembled, overhauled and rebuilt as necessary. The attention to detail did not stop with the exterior, trim, engine and interior, the complete dash instruments were disassembled, repaired or replaced and the trim and steering wheel was recast and all are immaculate and fully operational. This bus is truly among the best examples of a Samba bus available. In addition to the mechanical and cosmetic restoration, all electrical and rubber were replaced during the build. This bus has been in a private collection since the completion of the restoration and is serviced regularly and started and driven in order to maintain the seals and circulate fluids. This meticulous overhaul was conducted by well regarded VW specialist. Everything on this bus is operational, from the split safari front windshield to the sliding canvas top. This Samba Van does not disappoint in any respect, this was a no-expense-spared process that resulted in a quality of restoration that is not often matched. All body panels are straight and correct and the underside of this bus received the same attention as the exterior and interior. Words do little justice to the quality of this vehicle. This bus is an original California Black Plate vehicle, black plate included.
