Details
This 1967 Sting Ray's 11-month professional build began with a full soda blast of the car's solid body. After that strip, acute reinforcements were added to abate typical C2 stress points. Detroit Speed headlights shade polished bumpers, which cage a stainless-trimmed grille between small parking lamps. Behind those lights, a requisite cross-flag emblem draws the eye to the Stinger hood, which plants a bright red stripe in front of polished wipers, polished frames and pristine glass that's capped by tight cloth. At the sides of that hood, a louvered profile centers polished handles and bowtie mirrors above black rocker guards and rowdy side-pipes. And those mirrors reflect two more polished bumpers that frame factory taillights, polished tag trim, a prominent Sting Ray emblem and a color-keyed fuel filler. Housed within this Chevy's body-matched engine bay is a 6.2-liter small-block engine that's tied to a TREMEC 5-speed manual transmission and quick-change differential. Officially known as the Chevrolet Performance LS376/480, that $8,433 crate engine twists 10.7:1 compression into 495hp and 473 ft/lbs of torque. At the top of the block, a polished air tube funnels wind into a GM throttle body, which feeds a lightweight GM intake. That air meets spark in rectangular-port L92-style heads, which ride under painted and stainless-trimmed fuel rail covers. A nodular crank, powdered connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons compress that volatile union. A racing-inspired LS hot cam maximizes intake efficiency through better breathing. The mill funnels spent gases through coated block hugger headers. There's a polished DeWitts radiator that's slid in front of spry SPAL puller fans. Polished serpentine components spin a polished alternator opposite a polished air conditioning compressor, and braided lines and AC Delco plug wires combine with polished reservoirs, a Wilwood master cylinder and a billet clutch reservoir to detail otherwise purpose-built performance. The Sting Ray is additionally equipped with Z06 suspension, ZR1 wheels and sixth-generation Z06 power disc brakes. The interior boasts modern air conditioning, custom French-stitched leather, a modern radio with Bluetooth sound, and is surrounded by noise-deadening insulation, custom dash, center console, door panels and power windows. A flash drive showing the entire build process is included.
