Details
Oldsmobile introduced the 4-4-2 option midway during the 1964 model year to bolster its slipping performance image. In addition to other upgrades, the package consisted of a four-barrel carburetor, four-on-the-floor manual transmission, and two exhausts, hence the '4-4-2' model designation. To capitalize on its initial success and broaden market appeal, the 4-4-2 for 1965 was made available on all Cutlass models and the V-8 powered F-85 Club Coupe and a substantial 25,003 were sold. In 1968, the 4-4-2 became a discinct series within the Oldsmobile lineup, but by 1973 was again merely an option package on select models. Temporarily withdrawn after 1979 due to changing consumer tastes, the 4-4-2 option package was resurrected for the 1985,1986 and 1987 model years.
