Details
Original restored 1965 327/375hp two top convertible Corvette. Original GM engine machine code confirms 375hp, solid lifters, fuel injection, manual transmission and transistor ignition. There were 771 fuel injected Corvettes and only 287 with this powertrain combination built in 1965. With all Corvettes there is a story, this vehicle is no exception. It was stolen in 1967 and recovered within a few months. The owner elected to take the insurance settlement and the insurance company auctioned
the vehicle off. It was recovered before it was chopped into pieces, as evidenced by its beautiful no-hit body. The original trim tag and VIN plate were removed by the thieves, the insurance company applied for and received an official GM reissued VIN plate, which was installed on the vehicle. All paperwork for this transaction is included with the documentation of the vehicle. Fast forward to 1999, the owner trying to validate the vehicle contacted NCRS. The vehicle was at that time unrestored and retained its complete original drivetrain. NCRS inspected the vehicle at a regional meet and issued a letter to the owner stating the original configuration and color combination of the vehicle in its unrestored condition and advised the owner they would judge the vehicle as if the original trim tag was present at a future meet. The letter from NCRS signed by the National Judging Chairman and all Midyear Team leaders is part of the documentation package with the vehicle. Fast forward to 2006, documented and judged, this vehicle is the recipient of the NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence Award. It has been judged by NCRS no less than five times, culminating in a final score at the National Convention in 2006 with a Top Flight Score of 99.0 and receipt of the Duntov Mark of Excellence Award, which requires, in addition to two 97.0 or better scores, the completion of the Performance Verification test. This vehicle passed the Performance Verification on its first attempt, another feat seldom accomplished. It was the cover vehicle for the NCRS Corvette Restorer, which contains the feature article about this vehicle and its history. Documented, judged and achieved the ultimate NCRS award for a restored Corvette. 375hp fuel injected, two tops, Nassau Blue, blue/white interior, power windows, original engine, transistor ignition, off-road exhaust, original knock-off wheels, teak steering wheel and telescopic steering column. Additional NCRS awards include Regional 97.7 Top Flight in 2003, Regional 98.5 Top Flight in 2004 and Regional 98.2 Top Flight in 2004.
