Details
Handsomely finished in Tuxedo Black, this 1962 Impala Super Sport benefits from a highly detailed restoration, with ample power delivered by a period-correct 327ci small-block V8 engine. Mounting correct manifolds and a 4-barrel carburetor, the 327 mill is rated at 300hp and paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Correct details abound underhood, including a factory air cleaner, OEM glass windshield-washer bottle and finishes. The new interior features a Bright Red upholstery, accented by the correct 'SS' center console, dash and gauges. A Chevrolet transistor AM radio and dual rear-deck antennae provide additional entertainment, but the real joy is delivered by the mechanical notes delivered by the Impala's great-sounding dual-exhaust system. Finishing touches include correct steel wheels, full SS wheel covers and whitewall tires. Consistent with the rest of the vehicle, the undercarriage of this highly attractive 1962 Impala SS Sport Coupe is very clean and well-maintained. A mounted spare tire and roadside jack are properly mounted inside the correctly finished and spacious trunk. Handsomely presented throughout, this 1960s Chevrolet icon is ready to show and enjoy. Chevrolet debuted the Super Sport option on the GM division's popular full-size Impala in 1961 and the concept took off for 1962 with the restyled models. Available with both 6-cylinder and V8 power teams on the Impala Sport Coupe and convertible for just $53.80 extra plus $102.25 for bucket seats, the Code 240 Super Sport option added a wealth of upscale, performance-themed style. Among the many SS features were distinctive swirl-pattern bodyside moldings, SS badges, unique Super Sport wheel covers with simulated knock-off spinners, a locking floor console and passenger-assist handle. Combined with the Impala's convertible roof styling for the Sport Coupe, additional chrome trim, and an engine-turned aluminum-and-chrome panel housing the triple-unit taillight assembly, the Impala SS exuded sporty 'Jet Age' elegance far beyond its affordable pricing. Demand was high for this value-rich package, with expert sources reporting 99,311 Impalas equipped with the SS option for 1962.
