Details

Referred to as 'One Special 62 Chevy,' this 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air Bubble Top is truly spectacular in every sense of the word. It was meticulously restored to the highest quality using mostly original, NOS and correct parts. It spent many years on the show circuit, including ISCA, Detroit Autorama, Chevy Vettefest, Chevy Convention and Gran Prix Concours, where it achieved many prestigious awards. As the VIN number indicates, it was built in Flint, MI, as a 1962 Bel Air 6-cylinder 2-door Sport Coupe. As the Trim Tag indicates, it had a white/Twilight Blue exterior and an Aqua interior. The car was purchased by Mark Whitmer from his father Pete Whitmer in 1966. Mark owned the car for 48 years before selling it in 2014. This is documented on the original 1966 Ohio title, which is included. After a wild journey with the car, Mark decided to have it completely restored. The vision of the restoration was to create one of the most amazing Bel Air Bubble Tops on the planet, which was accomplished. Prior to the restoration it had just over 30,000 original miles. The body retains all of its original sheet metal, which is laser-straight with precise gap lines throughout. The car was repainted in its original gorgeous color combination. The paint quality is over the top. Since completion Mark would only wash the car with bottled deionized water. All of the glass was replaced new and stamped with correct dates. Most of the brightwork is original to the car and was fully restored to a brilliant appearance. It sports the correct T3 dual headlights. The car has a perfect stance on 14-inch painted steel wheels with chrome hubcaps. The wheels are wrapped with new Goodyear Custom Super Cushion 8.00-14-ply tires. The exterior is complemented by a luxurious interior. A great deal of effort was spent restoring the interior to the highest level. The headliner, painted dash, gauges, correct two-piece tachometer, steering wheel, C.A.R.S. door panels and hand-stitched seats are stunning. The trunk compartment was beautifully restored and houses a full-size spare tire with correct jack tools. The engine compartment is highly detailed with many correct parts throughout. The hood hinges and latch assembly are the correct shade of gold. The firewall was painted body color and the rest of the engine bay was painted high-gloss black. The car is powered by a date-code-correct dual-quad 409/409hp V8 engine that was completely rebuilt. The block casting number is #3788068 and the casting date is December 1961. The engine is outfitted with a correct intake with casting #3814881 and two Carter #3361S and #3362S carburetors. Some other correct parts include the belt idler pulley, generator #11022682E10, distributor #1110919, voltage regulator #111926LE, fuel pump #913, starter #11078, sun-tachometer transmitter and Packard radio plug wires #LRTVRS dated January 1962. The engine breathes through correct manifolds #3822925, #3822926 and correct dual-exhaust system that sounds sweet. The engine is coupled with a date-code-correct BorgWarner T10 4-speed manual transmission that was completely rebuilt. The transmission date is March 23, 1962. The power is transferred to the pavement through the date-code-correct #3789812 posi-traction rear end with 3.36 gears that was completely rebuilt. The undercarriage is also highly detailed with many correct parts throughout. The X-frame and underside was painted in gloss black and is truly exceptional. The detail work on the undercarriage has been displayed with lights and mirrors. Everything underneath has been restored or replaced, such as the fuel tank, steering system, suspension components and braking system. A story of 'One Special 62 Chevy' written by Mark Whitmer, original 1966 Ohio title, owner's manual, miscellaneous newspaper articles and photo of calendar spread is included. This vehicle has recently been completely serviced, which is documented with an invoice that is included. From the MS CLASSIC CARS Collection.
