Details
The Renault Caravelle was a joint design between the Italian coach builders Frua and Ghia of Turin Italy. It is built on the Dauphine platform with the chassis carrying a high-reving 4 cylinder engine, rack -and-pinion steering and a fully independent suspension. It was available in a four seat coupe and this sought after two seat convertible. The styling of the Caravelle was memorable. Enough so that the '61 Amphicar mimicked the overall design. Even the Brits didn't hesitate to use the scooped-out headlights for the MGB. Is it possible that the '64 1/2-'65 Ford Mustang borrowed its body side scoop/sculpture and cooling grilles from the Caravelle? This one comes with the upgrade optional manual 4 speed with the Gordini engine. It will do 55 mph, and gets great gas mileage. It has the sporty cooling grilles that were done away with in 1960. This Cabriolet has been restored back to original condition. Car runs great, and looks better. It was a California car, and has an original owner's manual.
