Details
Power steering, power brakes, special order one color paint. Engine serial number D-500-7230 located on block behind water pump, bore3.626, stroke 3.800, 315cid with 2 4-barrels and 285hp. 12'brakes, stiff suspension, Chrysler Imperial wheels to clear larger brakes, dual exhaust, 2 carter carburetors, aluminum intake, all were D-500-1 options. All the information we have been able to find is there were only approximately 100 total D-500-1 cars built, the number needed for NASCAR racing. This car
and most all of the cars and all of the special parts were shipped to Volusia Motors in Daytona Beach, Florida where they were to be prepped for racing and then sold to various racing teams including Carl Kiekhaefer Racing who purchased several convertibles. This car was stolen in FL and recovered in Colorado Springs, CO in 1989. In bad need of restoration it was returned to FL where it was found in a hanger at the airport in Daytona Beach in 1993. It has taken over 10 years to restore because of limited parts. Original running gear. The D-500-1 cars won several NASCAR races that year and were drag racing winners.
