Description
This magnificent 1956 Chevrolet Nomad Wagon is one of only 7,886 built. The Chevrolet Nomad is best remembered in its two-door Tri-Five form and was considered a halo model during its 3-year production. In 1956, Chevrolets received a facelift that included a more conventional full-width grille. Nomads now carried the same interior and rear wheel sheet metal as other Bel Airs. This Nomad was a very original three-owner Arizona car prior to the comprehensive 4-year restoration. As the VIN indicates, it was born with a V8 and built in Los Angeles, CA. It retains all the original sheet metal and the body is very straight. During the restoration only a few areas required minor bodywork. The car retains its original beautiful exterior colors of Sierra Gold and Adobe Beige. The PPG paint was treated to four coats of Deltron clear coat and looks stunning. The front windshield, driver’s window and rear sliding windows were replaced with new. All of the remaining glass is in great original condition. The car sports an original one-piece “California” front bumper, which was rechromed. Most of the remaining trim work is original and was restored to show-quality standards. The car sits on correct BFGoodrich Silverstone 6.70x15” 4-ply whitewall tires. The car retains its original matching interior colors of Copper and Tan. The entire interior was completely restored and is truly amazing, with great attention to detail. Many interior pieces were supplied by CARS in Michigan. The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout. The firewall is painted the body color, and the inner fenders, along with radiator support, are painted a high-gloss black. The car is powered by the original matching-numbers 265ci V8 engine. The engine was professionally rebuilt and runs excellent. The engine is equipped with a Carter #2286S 2-barrel carburetor, and the original generator was replaced with an alternator for reliability. The engine is coupled to the original matching-numbers 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, which was also completely rebuilt. The stock rear end was also rebuilt. The undercarriage also highly detailed throughout. The frame was media-blasted, painted with PPG DP epoxy primer and Spies Hecker satin chassis black. Power steering was added to ease the steering effort. In the interest of improved safety and convenience, power front disc brakes were installed, along with a dual master cylinder. Since the restoration this car has been driven over 3,000 miles, including a 250-mile trip to the Adirondack Nationals in Lake George, NY. This car has been featured in Hemmings and Chevy Classic magazines; copies of the magazine articles are included. This car has won multiple awards, including First Place (983 points) at the Class Chevy International, Favorite Chevy at the Adirondack Nationals, Best of Show Closed Post War Vehicle and Second Place Peer Class at the Fairfield Concours d’Elegance and Outstanding Chevy at the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance. The awards are documented in magazines, but are not included. This car has recently been serviced and detailed, which is documented with an invoice that is included.
