1955 FORD THUNDERBIRD CONVERTIBLE

As US servicemen returned from World War II, they brought home a love for the 2 seat European 'sports car.' American automobile manufactures scrambled to fill this demand. General Motors introduced the Corvette in 1954 and Ford Motor Co. quickly responded with the Ford Thunderbird in 1955. The Thunderbird quickly outsold the Corvette in sales volume attesting to the popularity of this new design. The first three years of production were the 2 seat model now known as the 'Little Birds.' Ford was careful not to call this model a sports car, but instead sold it as a 'personal luxury' car. A complete frame-off restoration to original data place specifications was completed in 1995. Torch Red exterior with correct red and white interior and red dash. Very few miles since restoration and carefully stored in South Dakota dry country. The car has the original excellent functioning 6-volt electric system and old tube style radio. The car is impressively styled and has many creature comforts including power windows, power seats, power steering, power brakes, adjustable steering wheel and both hard and soft tops. The automatic transmission is coupled to a powerful 292cid V8 creating a smooth and powerful performer that was iconic for the 1950's. Extra touches include the Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, engine chrome kit and radial 'driving tires.' Original wheels and wheel covers will also go with the car. Present owner has had this car for 22 years. Hates to part with it, but started to collect airplanes and the cars have to go. No better way to get the wind in your hair and make great memories.
