Details
The Lincoln Capri was a full size sedan sold by Ford's Lincoln luxury division. The Capri featured a V8 engine with a 3-speed automatic transmission. The Capri convertible's interior offered customers the option to choose among a variety of rich textures, including tweeds, friezes, nylons, broad cloths and leather. Pleated cushions and seat backs balanced nicely with the interior moldings and instrument panel. Lincoln's Capri convertible proved to be a fierce competitor in the crowded luxury
segment. By March of 1953, dealer inventory was non-existent. The Capri's assembly plants in Metuchen, New Jersey, St. Louis, Missouri and Wayne, Michigan were running at full capacity with second shifts. Unfortunately, overall sales were devastated by an August 13th fire at GM's Hydra-Matic plant, the transmission supplier for the 1953 Capri, crippling the Capri convertible production to just 2,372 for the year. This car has 55,458 original miles.
