Details

Once the rabid postwar seller's market was satisfied by the dawn of the 1950s, American automobile buyers expected more and Oldsmobile responded with the release of its brand-new 303ci V8 engine for 1950. Dubbed the 'Rocket,' this modern OHV V8 captured the public imagination and influenced popular culture as the inspiration for Ike Turner and his Rhythm Kings' massive 1951 hit song 'Rocket 88.' Continuing as the top Oldsmobile model line, the 1952 Oldsmobile 98, alternatively referred to as the 'Ninety-Eight,' was offered along three body styles comprising the convertible, 4-door sedan, and handsome 2-door Holiday Hardtop, all along the longest 124' wheelbase offered by Oldsmobile. The Ninety-Eight played a key role in Oldsmobile's success on the showroom floor, with the Holiday Hardtop proving a winner with 14,150 sold for 1952, the year Oldsmobile took command of fourth place in American automobile sales rankings. This wonderful example from the Gordon Apker collection is especially compelling. In addition to its winning style, it is a gorgeous and mostly original car that has never required full restoration. Instead, it has received some minor paint touch-ups and detailing. It has just less than 30,000 original miles. Powered by Oldsmobile's robust 4-barrel V8 engine delivering 160hp, it is finished in attractive '50s colors comprised of a teal exterior and red and grey interior and vehicle features many desirable factory options, standard features and accessories. Among them are the clock neatly housed within the steering-wheel hub, heater, AM radio, Autronic Eye, a compass, power steering, power windows and a spotlight. Finished off with wire-spoke hubcaps and riding on Coker wide whitewall tires, this 1952 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday Hardtop is a fine example of Oldsmobile's ascendancy during the early 1950s. **WILL BE SOLD AT APPROXIMATELY 8:00 P.M. ON THURSDAY JANUARY 19, 2017**
