Description
Bill Harley and the Davidson brothers reinvented the American motorcycle in 1936 when they created the 1,000cc (61ci) OHV engine. This engine was later named 'Knucklehead' by the California chopper culture of the 1960s due to the distinct shape of the rocker boxes, which resemble the knuckles of a closed fist. 1947 was the final year of this famed engine, which was replaced by the Panhead in 1948. This 1947 Harley-Davidson EL is powered by the 61ci Knucklehead V-twin engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. It's finished in burgundy paint with a black seat and rides on wire wheels wrapped in whitewall tires. From the Larry Winkler Collection.
