Details
This Speed33 custom 1934 Ford roadster applies American Speed Company's design talents to the same sound principles of style and quality that made the original '33 a success with Rodders. The engine, while looking vintage, was sourced from Summit Racing. The basis was a Blueprint 383ci engine mated to an American Powertrain TREMEC TKO 500 manual transmission, with a McLeod Racing clutch and flywheel and a Tilton Engineering throw-out bearing, using a QuickTime bellhousing. It is also equipped
with Summit Racing 3x2's Rochester 2G 350 cfm carburetors, custom linkage and a fuel block with stainless fuel tubes. Mating this package to the engine is an Edelbrock Three-Deuce polished intake manifold. Firing all that fuel and keeping the traditional look is the Summit Racing Street & Strip Ready-to-Run billet distributor and Street & Strip coil. The body is equipped with structural components that are tied to high-quality body panel stampings that stay true to the original design, and features a number of firsts in the industry, including the first modern, fully integrated convertible top in a '33 that stows completely away under a hard tonneau when not in use. The fenders and gas tank cover are from Steve's Auto Restorations and are steel as well. The running boards are stock Ford units with rubber covers. The hood is original '34 style from Rootlieb with a plain top and stock sides. The taillights and headlights are new stock versions, and the grille shell is a slightly modified stock '34 unit. The mirrors and door handles are stock units. The chassis is a custom unit from Precision Hot rods and Fabrication in Ohio. Their job was to create the perfect traditional hot-rod chassis and stance. The rear is a Winters quick-change with drum brakes using traditional model A spring and mounts. The front is a custom Pete and Jake's 5-inch dropped axle that's been narrowed about 2 inches from standard to tuck the fronts just right. On the inside, the column is a Lobeck roadster unit with an Alan Johnson shifter and pedals. The steering wheel is Billet Specialties, the gauges are Classic Instruments and the insert is a vintage unit that was updated. The seat is from Wise Guys and is covered in distressed-looking leather. The one-off Billet Specialties wheels resemble a traditional magnesium wheel, and the centers are coated to look like the original Dow 7 coating. This roadster is presented in all metal with Gibbs Metal Protection. From The Bryan Frank Collection.
