1931 CADILLAC V12 PHAETON

This Cadillac is powered by a 368ci OHV V12 engine paired with a 3-speed manual transmission featuring a solid front axle, live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs and has a 140-inch wheelbase. For the 1931 model year, Cadillac introduced a new V12 engine. This Cadillac was originally delivered through Bayers Auto Sales of Long Island City, NY, as noted in its original Build Sheet, a copy of which is in the file. It was later restored with this handsome phaeton body, in the style of that produced for V8 and V12 chassis this season by Fisher, sharing similar lines to the famous sport phaeton produced by Fleetwood on the prestigious V16 platform. For some years it was part of the respected Texas collections of the late Sterling McCall, known for his all-Cadillac museum, and Bill Munday. Finished in a rich apple green with chrome hood doors, supple tan leather upholstery, and a dark green cloth top. It is lavished with correct options and accessories, including chrome-spoke wire wheels with dual side-mounted spares and polished metal covers, Trippe Speedlights, dual horns, radiator stone guard, a luggage rack, 'wind wings,' and the iconic 'Goddess' mascot. The interior is particularly striking, with engine-turned dashboard accents and handsome clear gauges. Fit and finish is very good throughout, and the level of detail and presentation is superb. The current owner has had one of this country's top restoration shops fit the engine with new valve springs; install a new, beautifully crafted Stayfast top, top boot and side curtains; and extensive professional rebuilding and sorting of the suspension, steering and brakes. Detailed invoices for the work are available for inspection. This is a fine example.
